Friday 8 - Sunday 10 October

11am - 4pm

This autumn the spectacular Strawberry Hill Flower Festival returns for its third year, curated by Floral Artists Leigh Chappell & Janne Ford. Horace Walpole’s villa will once again provide a gorgeous, gothic backdrop to showcase floral designs with all its colour, drama, opulence, light and shadow at this atmospheric time of year.

The Flower Festival brings together over 30 florists and designers sharing their own artistic visions inspired by native flowers and foliage, plus dried and natural elements. All the floral designers – including Holly Bee Flowers, Twisted Sister Floral Design and Wildly Beautiful Flowers - have sustainable practices at the heart of what they do and will be demonstrating what can be achieved using traditional techniques.

In addition to the intricate and dramatic floral creations throughout the house, there will be demonstrations, tours and a talk by Floral Artist and Author Lucy Hunter and a flower clinic where our own horticultural experts will be on hand.

Pop up workshops and talk to be released in July.

Prices Between £12.50 to £25.00 Making the Ordinary Extraordinary: Reimagining the Bouquet Making the Ordinary Extraordinary: Reimagining the Bouquet A Tour followed by a Talk and demonstration by Lucy the Flower Hunter

Tour and Talk by Lucy the Flower Hunter

8th October 2021 at 6.30pm

With a lifetime designing award-winning gardens, floral art, and self-taught photography, Lucy's work is constantly looking at ways in which we can soften and meld the boundaries between the inside and out. Capturing for a moment the fine and transitory shifts in nature, the light of the changing seasons and always, colour, form, and composition.

Her talk and demonstration reimagine bouquets where we smell fresh herbs, choose wild strawberries, embrace overgrown hedgerow abundance with long trailing vines and simple roses with open petals in muted colours of fig and soft caramel and scents that speak of nostalgia.  She will encourage us to take pleasure from the flowers that are available as the seasons naturally dictate and appreciate the sometimes-glorious imperfection rather than always looking for the next bigger and better thing.  She will consider ways to look for wonder and beauty in the everyday ordinary and offer simple ways to bring the ‘outside in’ and turn it into the extraordinary.

She will talk about how our landscapes and gardens have once again become our sanctuaries, offering the solace and the undemanding pleasure that nature has to offer us and that we find ourselves craving.

Ticket include a Tour of the Flower Festival and a glass of fizz. Tours are at 6.30 and 7pm and the talk starts at 8pm

Prices Between £5.00 to £18.00 "The Little Jewess" - Frances Braham at Strawberry Hill. “The Little Jewess” - Frances Braham at Strawberry Hill. A talk by Nino Strachey to share new insights into the life of her ancestor Lady Frances Waldegrave

29 September 2021 at 7.30pm

To celebrate European Jewish Days of Culture, Nino Strachey will share personal reflections on the life of her relation Frances Braham (1821-1879). The daughter of an internationally famous Jewish opera singer, Frances married into the Waldegrave family, inheriting Strawberry Hill in 1846.

Notorious in her lifetime for her multiple marriages and political intrigues, Frances grabbed life by the throat. A committed Liberal, she used her money to influence Government. A loyal sibling, she supported her extended Jewish family through the dramatic ups and downs of their operatic careers. As Frances, Countess Waldegrave, she left her mark all over Strawberry Hill – doubling the size of the house and embellishing nearly every room with her distinctive FW initials and Countess’s coronet.

The Braham coat of arms appears alongside the Waldegrave arms, proudly displayed above the entrance gate, and in the stained glass of the Round Room. Drawing on her research into the Braham family, Nino will share new insights from the papers recently acquired by the British Library.

Includes a glass of fizz on arrival and the opportunity to see the Braham Coat of Arms on loan from Nino Strachey
