Visit to The Charterhouse - 21st March

Located in the City of London, the Charterhouse has been living the nation’s history since 1348. In that time it has served as a monastery, private mansion, boys school and an almshouse, which it remains to this day.

Guided tours are offered by 'the Brothers' of the Charterhouse. Historically, The Brothers are the residents of Sutton’s Hospital in Charterhouse, an almshouse founded in 1611 by Thomas Sutton. The term ‘Brother’ was chosen as an echo of the fact there was once a monastery here, but the residents of the almshouse have never been a religious order.Tours are given by the 'Brothers', members of the almshouse community living at the Charterhouse today.

This event has been organised by the Friends of Strawberry Hill. Income generated by the tickets sold will be used in the conitued restoration of the house and towards community and education outreach projects.

Tour: 2.15-4.15pm

Meet at 2pm outside the Charterhouse, details of travel avaiable at www.thecharterhouse.org
