Tuesday & Thursday at 11am and Wednesday at 2pm throughout the Summer.
Discover the fascinating history of what Horace Walpole, creator of Strawberry Hill House & Garden, called his "enchanted little landscape", set on the banks of the River Thames in Twickenham.
Our expert guides will lead you round the wooded glades and rolling lawns of Walpole's grade II listed garden and down to the riverside so you can appreciate the historic, social and geographical significance of its location.
Returning to the castle grounds via the sweeping Horseshoe Drive you’ll discover how the garden grew to fit the tastes and lifestyles of its subsequent owners, significant socialites of the 19th and 20th centuries, who developed it as a backdrop for solitary strolls and splendid soirees. You’ll walk across lawns where Pavlova danced, an elephant marched, and parties lasted long into the night – while at every turn a new vista of Walpole’s magnificent white Gothic castle will delight the eye as it has done for 270 years. No wonder he called Strawberry Hill his “land of beauties.”

This autumn the spectacular Strawberry Hill Flower Festival returns for its third year, curated by Floral Artists Leigh Chappell & Janne Ford. Horace Walpole’s villa will once again provide a gorgeous, gothic backdrop to showcase floral designs with all its colour, drama, opulence, light and shadow at this atmospheric time of year.
The Flower Festival brings together over 30 florists and designers sharing their own artistic visions inspired by native flowers and foliage, plus dried and natural elements. All the floral designers – including Holly Bee Flowers, Twisted Sister Floral Design and Wildly Beautiful Flowers - have sustainable practices at the heart of what they do and will be demonstrating what can be achieved using traditional techniques.
In addition to the intricate and dramatic floral creations throughout the house, there will be demonstrations, tours and a talk by Floral Artist and Author Lucy Hunter and a flower clinic where our own horticultural experts will be on hand.
Pop up workshops and talk to be released in July.
